Accelerating AI applications on Windows Subsystem for Linux with Intel's iGPU and OpenVINO toolkit

#artificialintelligence

Are you tired of switching between Windows and Linux environments to perform machine learning (ML) tasks? Do you want to accelerate inference of your ML applications in an effective way? This blog post is intended to serve as a guide to configure your Windows based system to get the most out of your Intel Integrated Graphics Processing Unit (iGPU). Now let's see how Intel's iGPU works with a Linux distribution (such as Ubuntu, openSUSE, Kali, Debian, Arch Linux, and more) on WSL to see the performance benefits of OpenVINO . I gave this combination of tools a try, with the demo shown below, and was really amazed by how seamlessly it works -- not to mention, with added acceleration!

Microsoft brings support for Arm-based AI chips to Windows – TechCrunch

#artificialintelligence

Today at Build 2022, Microsoft unveiled Project Volterra, a device powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform that's designed to let developers explore "AI scenarios" via Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine (SNPE) for Windows toolkit. The hardware arrives alongside support in Windows for neural processing units (NPUs), or dedicated chips tailored for AI- and machine learning-specific workloads. Dedicated AI chips, which speed up AI processing while reducing the impact on battery, have become common in mobile devices like smartphones. But as apps like AI-powered image upscalers come into wider use, manufacturers have been adding such chips to their laptop lineups. M1 Macs feature Apple's Neural Engine, for instance, and Microsoft's Surface Pro X has the SQ1 (which was co-developed with Qualcomm).

In our next Lightning Interview, we speak with Weaviate's co-creator, Bob van Luijt. In this live webinar, we will examine some naive ML workflows that don't take the development-production feedback loop into account and explore why they break down, showcase some system design principles that will help manage these feedback loops more effectively, and more. Data Governance is a critical component to ensuring a company is compliant with privacy laws and regulations alongside providing their data citizens with secure self-service access to trusted and quality data. In this webinar join us as we talk about noteworthy highlights in the AI/ML space from 2021, upcoming trends in ML/AI for 2022, and more. Hear first-hand from three Z by HP Data Science Global Ambassadors how the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL 2) has brought productivity and efficiency to their workflows.

Machine Learning Dev Box on Windows 10: HOW TO

#artificialintelligence

Windows 10 version 2004 and on contains something called WSL 2.0, which is an actual lightweight Virtual Machine (VM). Before we talk about what the heck WSL 2.0 is, however, it would be nice to understand a bit about what WSL 1.0 is. WSL 1.0 is Window's answer to something called Cygwin. Cygwin was popular on older versions of Windows for developers who needed or wanted Linux-related tools and a bash shell (a GUI could be added after jumping through a few hoops, though, but unless you had nice hardware the GUI would've been pretty slow -- my experience a bit buggy, too). The suits and ties at Microsoft haven't given the go ahead for WSL 2.0 to support the Linux GUI …OR… the devs are running behind but the good folks at Kali solved it.

Windows 10 May 2020 Update review: Microsoft boosts Linux and Your Phone, but Cortana slips hard

PCWorld

Update, 05/27/2020: Microsoft launched the May 2020 update on May 27, through manual download first, or you can just wait for Microsoft to push it to your PC. Our review of Microsoft's Windows 10 20H1 update--also known as version 2004, or the Windows 10 May 2020 Update--shows an OS focused primarily on building out existing features, rather than launching new ones. Some scaffolding is still apparent in tweaks to Your Phone, and especially Cortana. Microsoft has further polished Task Manager, Settings, and Game Bar, however, and isn't afraid to serve niche audiences with upgrades to the Windows Subsystem for Linux and the related Terminal app. As in the past, we've based our review on the Insider builds of the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, beginning with the major features and working through to its minor additions.
